I will be happier when…
I will be happier when… this moment is over. This is not a good moment for me. I want to be in a better moment, like a beautiful memory from the past, or a perfect dream about the future – I just don't want to be in this ‘now’!
It is with logic such that we choose to deny the reality of the moment we are in, and live in the mind created past or future. This may seem perfectly OK, because what is wrong with feeling better about ourselves and our life situation, even if it not true in this moment?
The issue is that real quality only exists deeply in the present moment, (and we need to go way deeper than our minds here). If we stay in our minds we miss out on the deeper quality available to us in every moment of our lives. And by real quality, I don’t mean the artificial mind created ‘quality’ of the past or future, I mean a deep connection with all of the beautiful inner qualities such as inner joy, peace, love – in fact the whole aliveness of being!
We have become so used to deferring to another time, it can be hard notice that we are 'missing out' on the true quality of life! We choose to allow life to pass us by because we don’t like that bit of it we are currently in, and we defer connecting with it until things are ‘better’. Only then we will start to connect with the moment and feel the real quality in life, but not right now because this moment isn’t what we want!
So how many times do we miss the present moment? Not just miss it, but consciously dismiss it, for having no value. Like when we are having to wait for a bus, or an appointment when you are in a hurry, being crammed on a tube train, or feeling bored. There is nothing wrong with this moment, our minds just aren’t happy with how it is, and so there is a compulsion to want to change it.
Yes, I am sure I will be happier when…
-
I get off this crowded tube train,
-
it's lunchtime,
-
the working day is over,
-
I’ve met the deadline,
-
it’s the weekend,
-
I have a few drinks,
-
I am sober again,
-
I get some time off,
-
I get a new job
-
I have a life partner
-
I retire
-
And even…. When I am dead!
It is possible to wish your whole life away, living in your mind-created past and future, and so avoiding any connection with the present moment and the quality that is always there.
The point is that you don't have to wait to feel that aliveness of being. It is already there in every moment. Just take THIS moment, deeply connect with it and notice how it feels.
(Or wait until Sunday!)
